Mobility allowance

Mobility allowance covers expenses caused by travelling to work and back or moving to another town for work. Check whether you have a right to claim mobility allowance, if you start a full-time job and your commute is more than three hours, or if you start a part-time job and your commute is more than two hours.

Amount of allowance

The amount of mobility allowance is that same as basic unemployment allowance (32.40 in the year 2017) without the increased component or child increases and it is paid for five days a week. Monthly mobility allowance is about 700 euros.

Maximum payment period

The maximum payment period of mobility allowance depends on the length of the employment:

Conditions

You can claim mobility allowance, if:

  • travelling to work and back at the beginning of the employment (or when you agree about the job if you move to another town because of it) is more than three hours in the case of full-time employment or more than two hours in the case of part-time employment
  • you are entitled to unemployment allowance immediately before the employment begins
  • you work at least 18 hours a week
  • the length of your employment is at least two months
  • you have applied for mobility allowance before the employment begins.

Claiming the allowance

If you think you could be entitled to mobility allowance, remember to apply for allowance from your own unemployment fund before the employment begins. You can not claim mobility allowance after the employment has begun. You can apply for the allowance even if you don't have all the necessary attachments yet, such as the employment contract. The missing attachments can be sent to the fund afterwards.
