Impact of social security benefits

Social benefits may affect the benefits paid by the unemployment
funds.

Benefits that prevent the payment of earnings-related allowance include several pensions, full or partial sickness allowance, maternal, paternal or parental allowance, pregnancy allowance and rehabilitation allowance.

Benefits that reduce the amount of earnings-related allowance include among others partial disability pension, child home care allowance and partial care allowance. Benefits are taken into account in gross amount without deduction of taxes.

Benefits that do not affect the payment of earnings-related allowance include child benefit, housing allowance, social assistance, and disability benefits.

Reduce daily allowance in full

The following social benefits are deducted from the earnings-related allowance:

  • If you claim earnings-related allowance, you or your partner’s child home care allowance is deducted from your allowance unless your partner cares for your child him/herself and is therefore unable to work.
  • Flexible care allowance
  • Partial care allowance
  • Student grant
  • Part-time pension and partial disability pension
  • Disability benefits received from another state
  • Part-time pension
  • Old-age pension (not full)
  • Old-age pension not granted on the basis of full pensionable years
  • Supplementary pension organised by the employer
  • Farm closure pension
  • Farm closure waiver
  • Compensation for loss of earnings under the Motor Insurance Act and invalidity pension not granted on the basis of full incapacity
  • A daily allowance under the Military Disability Act not granted on the basis of full invalidity
  • Compensation payable under the Military Accident Act
  • Part of the supplementary interest rate for annuity under the Accident Insurance Act not granted on the basis of full incapacity
  • A daily allowance under the Military Disability Act not granted on the basis of full invalidity
  • Indemnity for loss of earnings under the Act on compensation for crime damage 935/1973
  • Compensation for loss of earnings (pension) under the Patient Injuries Act (potilasvahinkolaki 585/1986)
  • Guarantee pension, if granted in addition to any of the above benefits

Prevent the payment of a daily allowance

The following social benefits prevent the earnings-related allowance from being paid:

  • Maternity, paternity or parental allowance
  • Special care and special maternity allowance
  • Unemployment pension
  • Full invalidity pension granted in Finland
  • Career pension
  • Full retirement pension
  • Early retirement pension
  • Individual early retirement
  • Guarantee as a complement to retirement pension
  • Pension support
  • Daily allowance under the Health Insurance Act
  • Daily allowance under the Accident Insurance Act
  • Compensation for loss of earnings under the Motor Insurance and Accident Insurance Act
  • Rehabilitation allowance and corresponding loss of earnings compensation
  • Waiver support
  • Generational renewal pension

Do not affect the daily allowance

The following social benefits are not deducted from the daily allowance:

  • Housing allowance
  • Child benefit
  • Flexible care allowance for the spouse
  • The municipality’s home care support
  • Survivors’ pensions, also including maintenance and supplementary maintenance pensions
  • Care allowance under the National Pensions Act
  • Support for the municipality’s paid care
  • Partial early old-age pension
  • Family caregivers’ fees
  • Treatment allowance for pensions
  • Life annuity and additional life annuity under the Military Injuries Act
  • Disability allowance
  • Income support
  • Conscript’s allowance
  • Compensation for special costs under the Accident Insurance Act and the Military Disability Act
  • Special cost allowances under the Motor Insurance Act
  • Daily allowance under the Accident Insurance Act
  • Additional war pensions
  • Voluntary pension by a person
