Unemployment security system

The purpose of unemployment security is to provide unemployed jobseekers with the financial means to look for work and improve their prospects of returning to employment.
The role of the unemployment security system is to secure livelihood in situations where a person becomes unemployed or laid off. There are two benefits available in Finland for periods of unemployment: the earnings-related allowance paid by unemployment funds and general social security benefit paid by Kela.

In addition, unemployment funds pay mobility allowance and transition security allowance. Mobility allowance is paid when you accept a job located far from your current place of residence. Transition security allowance is paid to employees aged 55 or over who have been dismissed for financial or production-related grounds, have been in the service of the same employer for a minimum of five years, and have registered as a jobseeker within 60 days of dismissal.
