Unemployment funds
Join a fund
Around two million wage earners and self-employed people have insured themselves against unemployment through an unemployment fund. By joining an unemployment fund, you will receive earnings-related allowance based on your salary level if you become unemployed.
You can use the allowance calculator to estimate your earnings-related allowance based on your salary. Qualifying for earnings-related allowance requires that you have been employed for a total of 12 months during your fund membership. You can find more detailed information on the conditions for paying the earnings-related allowance here: Eligibility for earnings-related allowance
Some funds offer job search support services to their members. These services are voluntary for members and complement the statutory services offered to jobseekers. The fund’s services can be used for job seeking or career planning.
Find a fund for you
Below you will find information about the services, membership fees, and membership requirements of different unemployment funds. You can filter the funds based on whether they are employee funds for specific industries or educational fields, employee funds open to everyone, or funds that offer insurance coverage for entrepreneurs.
How can I join an unemployment fund?
You join a fund by submitting a membership application. You can find a membership application on each unemployment fund’s website. You can join an unemployment fund when you are employed or self-employed. Employment does not have to be permanent; even short-term employment is sufficient.
Members of unemployment funds pay a membership fee, which is used to finance part of the benefits and the fund’s administrative costs.
If you want to switch unemployment funds, contact the new fund and authorise them to terminate your old membership. This ensures that your membership continues uninterrupted in the new fund. If you switch unemployment funds with no more than one month between memberships, the employment and membership periods accrued in the old fund will also count towards your requirements in the new one.
