Mobility allowance

Mobility allowance compensates for travel and relocation costs when you accept a job as an unemployed person that is located far from your current place of residence.
Mobility allowance is paid when you accept a job as an unemployed person that is located far from your current place of residence. You can receive mobility allowance even before the actual work begins, if you start training related to the employment relationship that lasts at least two months.

Eligibility for mobility allowance

The conditions for qualifying for mobility allowance relate to your situation before the start of the employment relationship, the length of your commute, and the duration of the work. Qualifying for mobility allowance requires that:

  • you receive allowance right before the work or training begins, and
  • your return commute in full-time work is more than three hours a day and in part-time work more than two hours a day, and
  • the work lasts for at least two months.

The general rule is that you must receive allowance before the work or training begins. However, you may still be entitled to mobility allowance even if the payment of your allowance was prevented before the start of the employment due to a suspension period, an employment obligation, or a waiting period.

Amount of the mobility allowance

In full-time work, the amount of the mobility allowance is approximately €800 per month. For part-time work, mobility allowance is paid for worked days at €37.21/day.

Duration of the mobility allowance

The duration of your mobility allowance depends on how long your employment relationship lasts. At most, the allowance is paid for two months.

The allowance is paid for one month for employment that lasts for at least two months. The allowance is paid for 1.5 months for three-month employment, and for two months for four-month employment.

Apply for the allowance

You apply for mobility allowance from your own unemployment fund. You can submit the mobility allowance application to your own unemployment fund as soon as you have concluded an employment contract. Mobility allowance must be applied for within three months of the start of the employment relationship.

Mobility allowance is applied for all at once for the entire duration of the employment. The allowance is paid retroactively in four-week periods. The first payment period may be shorter.
